In order to fight "the war on terror", we should all become arseholes

That's pretty much what this paper (pdf) from think tank RUSI says. Been reading this today and, while the reporting is fairly neutral, the implications of implementing the paper's recommendations are frighteningly clear. It's all ridiculously over-the-top and stupidly majoritarian. Take just one quote for example:

The United Kingdom presents itself as a target, as a fragmenting post-Christian society ... The country's lack of self-confidence is in stark contrast to implacability of its Islamist terrorist enemy, within and without.
So, basically, we should stop being worried about all these silly little minorites within the UK and start to beef up a nationalistic identity comprised of a mix of Britannia, Armed Forces, Union Flag, Church of England and Royal Family into which we must all fit upon pain of being declared traitors.

Can I just put on record that I'd like this load of tossers to get stuffed? Thanks.

There's been a post on this matter over at the Spectator's Coffee House site. As was to be expected, they say "this may just confirm what many know already".

What I wasn't expecting, but is disturbing nonetheless, is the first comment in reply: What will be the cathartic act that brings this nonsense, appeasement and weakness to an end? You can feel it out there, like the heaviness before a storm, waiting to be born.

This comment feels for all the world like someone coming over all Travis Bickle in his wish for another 7/7 to make people like me change my mind about minority rights: Someday a real rain will come and wash all these multiculturalist lefty liberal scum off the streets.

And, of course, the BNP have got in on the act too.
